La Chapelle de la Sainte Croix date du début du XIVe siècle et c’est le plus ancien bâtiment du village d’Èze.
Cette chapelle servait de siège à la confrérie des Pénitents blancs d’Èze. À l’époque de sa construction, la région souffrait d’épidémies de peste. Les Pénitents blancs s’habillaient de cagoules et de robes blanches pour assister les malades.
L’architecture extérieure de cette église, avec la forme particulière de son clocher, remonte à l’époque où Èze appartenait à la République de Gênes. Un autre fait intéressant est que cette église a également été le lieu où les habitants d’Èze ont voté à l’unanimité pour le rattachement de la ville à la France à l’époque où Nice a également été officiellement annexée à la France en 1860.
Visitez ce lieu de culte et admirez son porche décoré de mosaïques de galets, son maître-autel et son crucifix d’origine catalane qui représente le Christ souriant. Cette petite chapelle est un véritable joyau du village d’Èze.
