La place de la Grande Fontaine est l’un des lieux historiques les plus emblématiques du village de Saint Paul de Vence et l’endroit idéal pour une photo de groupe. La fontaine médiévale située sur la place a été reconstruite deux fois dans le passé, une fois au 17ème siècle et la seconde fois au 19ème siècle.
À l’origine, elle servait de source d’eau pour les habitants, soit pour laver le linge, soit pour abreuver les animaux. Quoi qu’il en soit, la place et la fontaine ont toujours été le lieu le plus fréquenté et le centre du village.
Il convient de mentionner que depuis 1285, un marché se tient chaque samedi sur la place. À partir de 1615, il y avait également un marché tous les mercredis.
