The Place de la Grande Fontaine is one of the most iconic historic places in the village of Saint Paul de Vence and the perfect place for a group photo. The medieval fountain located in the square has been rebuilt twice in the past, once in the 17th century and the second time in the 19th century.

It originally served as a source of water for the locals, either for washing clothes or as a drinking fountain for the animals. In any case, the square and the fountain have always been the busiest place and the centre of the village.

It is worth mentioning that since 1285, a market has been held every Saturday in the square. From 1615 onwards, there was also a market every Wednesday.
