Overview

After walking through the charming town, you can head to nearby Baou de Saint-Jeannet, known to climbers for its open climbing routes on high limestone cliffs. However, the Baou de Saint-Jeannet also allows for scenic hikes in a landscape of oak groves, valleys, and beautiful rock formations.

From Saint-Jeannet, the route ascends through the village to the right bank of the Vallon de Parriau. A trail runs along the eastern side of the mountain, ascending in a curve to the crest of the Baou de Saint-Jeannet. After this you head south to a landmark at the summit. The circuit continues via Bergerie des Allouchs to Combe Maougaride, then descends the Cagne valley via Castellet, an old 14th-century fortified settlement, and returns to the starting point via Font du Bœuf.

To reach the route, follow the Avenue du Vallon through narrow streets to the Chemin du Baou. As you climb above the village, you will soon be walking through the wild countryside on the right bank of the Vallon de Parriau below the cliffs of the eastern side of the Baou de Saint-Jeannet. The route is well signposted so you should have no problem finding your way around.

The most striking thing about this route is the panorama of the Côte d’Azur on a clear morning. However, the ruins of Castellet are also worth seeing. In a deserted landscape, the collapsed tower extended by a long building may surprise you. All along the route you will find plenty of opportunities for climbers, whether beginners or advanced.

Some passages of this mountain route are steep because of this, they are not recommended for unaccompanied children and those prone to vertigo. However, if you want to experience a bit of adventure and enjoy some nature, you will definitely enjoy this route.
