The Neo-Romanesque Cathedral of Monaco dates back to 1875, despite looking much older. It is a very important building for the history of Monaco as it is home to the tombs of Monaco’s former Princes.

The interior furnishings and décor are spectacular, a high altar decorated with mosaic, stained glass windows, a massive throne fully covered in white marble and beautiful altarpieces of Saint Nicolas, Saint Devote, the White Penitents and Saint Roch.

The Cathedral is the resting place of generations of the Grimaldi family. Right in the centre, you will find the remains of most of the Princes, Princesses and Lords of Monaco, from 1468 to 2005. The tombs are placed in an ambulatory, a roundabout circle.

There are also numerous religious festivals taking place in the Cathedral such as the feast of the Holy Devote on January 27^th and the National Day in November 19^th.

The Cathedral is situated in the heart of Old Town between the Prince’s Palace and the Oceanographic Museum. Entrance is free of charge every day from 9 am to 6 pm. Because of its cultural importance and respect visitors are advised to dress properly and respectfully.
