The Palais Lascaris is a stunning museum located in the heart of Nice’s Old Town, housing a remarkable collection of old musical instruments. Once an aristocratic residence, you can see its monumental staircase decorated with frescoes as well as its luxuriously decorated lounges.
One of the first noble families in Nice, the Lascaris-Ventimiglia, originally built the palace. The Duke of Savoy considered them the ‘’principalissima’’ of the noble families of Nice back in the 17th century. The city of Nice bought the palace in 1942, and it has been classified as a historical monument ever since.
In 1970, the palace was officially opened to the public as a municipal museum. You can find collections of decorative and fine arts of the 17th and 18th centuries such as tapestries, paintings, sculptures, furniture and works of art. You can also find a wide instrumental collection as well as examples of regional ethnography.
You can visit the museum every day, except Tuesday, from 10 am to 6 pm. It is easily accessible by Line 1 of the tramway, just get off at the ‘Cathédrale – Vielle Ville’ stop.
