The Cathedral of Notre Dame de la Platea is located in the heart of the old town in Antibes. It contains remarkable works of religious art, and it has been officially listed as a historic monument since 1945.
Jacques Dolles, a native sculptor of Antibes, contributed to the construction of this building back in the 18th century when it was built. You can see his sculptures at the top of the door which represent the protectors of the city, Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian.
This Cathedral has been rebuilt and renovated several times over the centuries. It was the former seat of the bishops of Antibes, then authorised to Grasse and then back to Antibes. You can admire its interior altarpiece of Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire which represents a virgin and a child surrounded by cherubs. The 15 Mysteries of the Rosary are also represented on the panels which surround the portrait of the Virgin Mary.
Behind the cathedral, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the coast of the French Riviera. After your visit at the Cathedral, you can enjoy a stroll through the old town of Antibes. Head to the Provençal market and treat yourself with some local products from the region, cheeses, fruits and vegetables.
