Originally a castle, the Château d’Èze is famous as one of the most luxurious boutique hotels on the French Riviera. It is situated high above the Mediterranean Sea in the medieval village of Èze.
What is interesting about this castle is that is has existed for 400 years within the ancient city walls of the 9th century village. The original name of this castle was ‘The Prince of Sweden’s Castle’. Prince William of Sweden and Norway and his father bought the ensemble of homes and baptised the area as Chateau Eza.
William was under the spell of the tranquillity of the Chateau. He left his own royal court to develop his writing talents here while admiring the views from the hill.
The castle gained increased public interest more recently and today it has been turned to a luxurious hotel with restaurant.
The rooms feature décor and furniture that feels like you’re travelling back to medieval times. Of course, if you are not interested in staying, you can still enjoy a lunch or a dinner in the restaurant.
