Not very far from Saint Tropez, you can find a beautiful medieval village known as Grimaud. It may be misinterpreted with Port Grimaud which is located mainly at the seaside. If you decided to take a small trip away from Saint Tropez, then we suggest you visit both the village of Grimaud and Port Grimaud.
Grimaud village is situated on a hilltop, strategically used as a fortress to protect the city. It overlooks the region of Var and the Mediterranean Sea as well. You will find a lot of houses built in Provençal-style architecture and ruins of an 11th-century castle as well.
The ruins of the castle are surrounded by ramparts that are seven meters high, and it is impressive how they have remained retained after all those years. You can admire some of the most beautiful views of the Grimaud village as well as the city of Saint Tropez.
During summer, the area around the ruins of the castle hosts an open-air theatre, with the terraces rising up to the castle providing seats for everyone.
Stroll through the streets with stone-built houses, in a pastel-coloured scenery showcasing the main characteristics of Provençal architecture and decoration. You will also find a beautiful building from the 16th century built in a Renaissance style with gothic arches.
If you have time for a little shopping, there is a wide selection of grocery stores, bakeries, butcheries and of course for the art admirers, art galleries filled with original pieces by some of the most talented artists.
