The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception or the Chapel of the White Penitents is located right next to the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel.
It was built in 1687 and it was mainly used by the White Penitents until the revolution in France. The architecture features elements of Baroque art.
The façades and Baroque elements can be found in the front door and in the bell tower which is situated right next to the chapel, a very characteristic element of baroque style art. The elements can also be found in the interior as well exhibited all over the chapel as well as within the statues of Saint Isidore and Saint Elmo. There are also some statues representing Hope, Faith and Charity. You will find a lot of frescoes in the vault, created by local artists. The altarpiece of the high altar is also very impressive with its polychrome marble which celebrates the Immaculate Conception.
The Ministry of Culture in Menton is responsible for approving the tours in this Chapel. Why not try one out – you will learn all about this chapel, the scale of the place and the development as well as the history of Menton and its surroundings.
