At the western limit of Monaco lies the beautiful community of Cap d’Ail. It is positioned between Monaco and Nice and it stands peacefully along the coast, on the border of the Principality.
Cap d’Ail is a small and pleasant residential town which is built between sea level and the mountainside of the Tête de Chien. It is only one stop from the station in Monaco. The coastal path from Monaco to Cap d’Ail is a memorable highlight that all visitors in Monaco should experience.
The coastal path is 3.6 km long and it can be easily covered in just an hour by offering the most exceptional views of the region. The starting point is at the west of the border of Monaco at Fontvieille and more specifically from the Plage Marquet. Follow the rocky coastal path with coves and bays while walking underneath some Belle Epoque villas and admire the views of the turquoise deep-water bay which is surrounded by cliffs that overlook the eastern coast of Cap Ferrat. Walk a little bit further and you will spot a staircase which will bring you to one of the most magical and beautiful beaches of the Côte d’Azur which is situated in a cove, la Mala Plage.
La Mala Plage is smaller compared to the rest of the beaches in the region but the beauty of the area is just surreal. Swim in the crystal-clear waters and appreciate its exceptional views of the Mediterranean.
There are also two restaurants offering refreshing cocktails and fresh seafood. Alternatively, you can prepare your own lunch and enjoy a picnic in this beautiful little sandy beach. On your way back to Monaco, you will be going to the opposite direction, facing another iconic view of the Italian Riviera.
