If you are interested in the marine world or like to collect shells on the beaches, you should definitely visit the Musée des coquillages (Seashell Museum) during your trip to Saint Jean Cap Ferrat.
At the museum, visitors can see the largest collection of shells of the Mediterranean. In total, the museum houses more than 7,000 exhibits, including 400 world record holders and an exceptional collection of exotic shells.
Before the actual tour of the shells, you have the opportunity to watch a 6-minute informative film to learn about the museum and the shells. Microscopes will be available for you to observe the microscopic shells.
The museum underwent a transformation a few years ago and represents a Mediterranean heritage that is unparalleled in the world. In fact, no similar museum dedicated to Mediterranean molluscs and crustaceans has ever been built.
It is an ideal stop, for example, on the way to the beach, especially if you are going on a trip with children. In addition, adults will certainly expand their knowledge of the underwater world as well.
Entrance to the museum is free and it is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
