This Cathedral is a magnificent Orthodox church built by the Romanov ruling family of Russia to satisfy the spiritual needs of the growing Russian population in Nice and the French Riviera in general. It is considered as one of the most important orthodox buildings outside the Russian Federation.
The Church was finished in 1921 and the structure of the Church is following Old Russian style standards. However, there are some other modern elements such as the disposition of the Greek cross plan with the five domes that represent Jesus and the four evangelists. It also contains an iconostasis that was initially made in a workshop in Russia.
The Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas de Nice is the largest Orthodox cathedral in Western Europe and a meeting place of Orthodox believers from ex-Soviet republics.
You can visit this church anytime between 10 am to 6 pm on Monday – Saturday and anytime between 12 am to 6 pm on Sundays.
