Ventimiglia is located on the Italian border, between the French and the Italian Rivieras. It is easily accessible by car, train, bus or even on foot. According to your own choice, you can enjoy a small day trip and have a change of atmosphere from France to Italy!
Once you reach the town of Ventimiglia, head to the food market which takes place between Tuesday and Sunday, offering wonderful fresh pasta and ravioli, ideal for getting to know authentic Italian cuisine.
Then, head to the Old Town and explore the narrow streets of this beautiful Italian city. As it is positioned on a hill, the Old Town offers splendid views of the whole Riviera and the mountains. The buildings and houses are painted in bright pastel colours, giving this little city its beautiful characteristics. The shades vary from pinks to yellows to reds, greens, and light blues.
Most of the historic landmarks are also situated in the Old Town. Stroll through the streets and explore the city’s monuments such as the 11th century Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta and the Chiesa di San Michele chapel, which served as the chapel of the Counts of Ventimiglia. You will find a library built in Baroque style as well, the Biblioteca Aprosiana which is housed in the city’s old theatre.
You can then take a walk through Ventimiglia’s beautiful pebble beaches. There are also golden sandy beaches surrounded by cliffs and wild flowers which offer amazing views of the deep blues of the sea.
Finish your day trip with an evening course of traditional cuisine in Ventimiglia’s traditional restaurants facing the waterfront, offering delicious dishes from zucchini bites to prawn pasta, mascarpone ravioli, and much more.
