Gassin is a small village with little narrow streets and Provençal ancient houses, situated only above 15 minutes away from Saint Tropez.
The village is positioned high up on a rock, overlooking magnificent vineyards and the coast. From the top, you can also see the Iles D’Or and the Maures Mountains. During winter you can even see the snowy peaks of the Alps.
The village was originally built as a hilltop refuge from bands of pirates who would usually perform robberies throughout the region. Its position is rather strategic as it served as a fortress to protect the city.
You will witness beautiful greenery scenery, vineyard, landscapes, a botanical garden and a small hidden chapel, Notre-Dame-de-la-Compassion. You can also see the ramparts that were built in order to protect the city from invaders. A small rectory is also situated at the sight which used to be the former residence of the of priests in the village.
For wine lovers, there is the option to visit the Chateau Minuty situated just below Gassin. It offers a fantastic range of red, white and rose wines.
