The Musée des Beaux Arts is today housed in what once used to be a palace owned by the Grimaldi family. It was known as the Palais des Carnolès, a carved stone former palace in shades of pale pink that served as the Grimaldi’s summer residence.
Today, this palace houses the city’s art museum with a collection of paintings and sculptures dating from the 13th century and many exhibitions by contemporary artists. The collection focuses on Greek icons, Flemish schools, Dutch schools, Italian standards, and paintings from the 18th century as well.
The exterior of this building is also very interesting with golden doors and woodwork, both inside and outside. The interior is composed of golden doors as well, decorated ceilings and parquet floors. It’s worth admiring its magnificent architecture.
There is also a garden which was classified as a ‘Remarkable Garden’, with a wide collection of citrus trees. You will also discover contemporary sculptures that are positioned in the middle of the setting, surrounded by an enormous collection of citrus fruits.
