A must–do in the capital of the French Riviera is a stroll through the Old Town, with its narrow cobblestone streets and its pastel-hued buildings. Nice’s Old Town never fails to leave its visitors amazed!

There is a lot of history in Vieux-Nice and you can even see the names of the streets which are written in both French and the local Nissart dialect. Take a walk through Place Rossetti and the Cathedral of St. Reparate in the same area, then head to Lascaris Palace and to the flower market of Cours Saleya too. You can also find the Opera House in Old Town as well as the Patisserie Henri Auer which has been operating since 1820. It is an important spot for the city’s history as Nice’s most beloved invitée Queen Victoria used to visit the patisserie during her winter visits to the French Riviera.

Look out for the house of Nice’s most famous inhabitant, Henri Matisse, located towards the end of the Cours Saleya flower market. Matisse loved the views from his windows where he was painting.

You will also notice a lot of shops that sell local products such as soaps, textiles and cheeses. The Cours Saleya flower market is ideal for shopping for local products and specialities of the Niçoise cuisine.
