Far from it’s legendary appearance, I invite you to discover another view of Monaco: more authentic and less flashy. So I’m not going to tell you about the café Paris, the dozens of Lamborghinis and Ferraris parked all over the city or the luxury hotels. There is much more beauty to discover. A day in Monaco can astonish you by its sobriety.

A day in Monaco: Things to Do

How to get to Monaco

  • By car : Monaco is a paradise for cars, there are many parking lots for a more than reasonable price! Beware of traffic jams at the entrance by the large cornice. Waze will help you choose the right time to leave.
  • By train : if you leave from Nice, count 30 minutes of transport. In spite of the old and not very comfortable RER trains of our region you will be along the seaside with breathtaking views of our beautiful Mediterranean.

A day out in nature and away from the ‘Rich Monaco’

A ‘Zen’ garden right in the center

A few steps from the beach and the city center, you could walk through this pretty Japanese garden. You will walk around in about 15 minutes, ideal after a good meal. And if like me, you can’t afford to go to Japan, it’s a very good compromise!

Larvotto beach

A small nugget! After Japan, Dubai … a sandy beach surrounded by numerous buldings ! To do in summer and winter. I advise you to walk there in the evening. So romantic !

La tête de chien – ‘The head of the dog’

Take the large cornice in the direction of La Turbie, cross the village and it you will find it. Beware of those suffering from vertigo, it is the highest peak of our French Riviera! A panoramic and plunging view on Monaco, Cap d’Ail and Cap Ferrat. You can even see Italy as far as Cannes. If you are a fan of our region you will love it! A hiking trail of 6 kilometers will offer you very nice views!

Saint Paul church and Saint Martin’s garden on it’s rock

A big favorite!  From the port of Monaco, take the big stairs. Sportively walk on the rock; you won’t be disappointed by the show! All along the ascent you will discover an incredible panorama on all Monaco!
You will then arrive on the Palace Square, I’m not a fan myself! But, wait a bit. Walk a few meters and you will arrive at the Monaco Cathedral (St Paul). Pretty outside it’s just amazing as soon as you enter it… You are certainly expecting a too-much church, well no…. but I let you discover its beauty by your own eyes! I’m not going to spoil the whole show for you. Not to be missed! Then walk through the Saint Martin garden which offers you a 360° sea view and then go down to the city center.

The ‘océanographique’ museum

Discovering the seabed and the richness of the Ocean, young and old, you will find this magical place. Add it to your to do list! Especially if you are with your family. Open every day from 10:00 to 19:00

The ‘La Rascasse’ for some craziness!

A desire to dance, sing, have a drink, seduce or simply relax? I’m not talking about Jimmy’z, TWIGA or Zelo’s. I reccommend a bar with a relaxing atmosphere, not at all snobbish and very nice for young people: La Rascasse on the port of Monaco.

  • For a return to Nice at the end of the afternoon take the freeway because there are many traffic jams on the seaside.
  • For privileged accommodation in Nice or Cap d’Ail (closer) for more affordable prices.
