Originally constructed for military purposes as a fortification, Fort Antoine has been transformed today as an outdoor theatre space offering performance and shows during the summer.
The fortress was built at the beginning of the 18th century but it was then destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt again a few years later in 1953, on the orders of Prince Rainier III.
It is a setting which brings together chamber music, theatre and poetry. Because of its strategic positioning, Fort Antoine also offers exceptional views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surroundings of the region.
Fort Antoine is located a little further from the hustle and bustle of Monte Carlo, on the Avenue de la Quarantaine.
Fort Antoine is definitely worth the detour during your visit or stay in Monaco. If you happen to be visiting during summer then you might be able to catch a show as well. The setting is truly phenomenal and the remarkable quality of the events will bring you closer to the region of Provence and the Principality itself.
You can then head to the Rock in the old town and discover other iconic landmarks such as the Prince’s Palace.
